Disney World Vacation and Savings Fly Cheap! Airfare Secrets Revealed Interstate Rest Area Guide For The Traveler
The background picture you see here is the place where the young actor James Dean lost his life. It was actually about 1/2 mile behind us. (Click on the pictures for a larger view. Use your back arrow to return.) James Dean was traveling down this hilly highway at over 130 miles per hour. He didn't have time at the speed traveled to stop or miss a car entering from the left side road. His car ended just about where the light pole stands today. This is an actual photo taken from the Newspaper at the time of the accident. Here is a great site for more info on James Dean

To see what TIME it is Click Here There are many places in California that I have seen and many more that I still want to see. I have seen places like the great gold rush area in and around Coloma, California. Sutter's Mill is where gold was discovered in the 1800's. California is loaded with historic and interesting places. Coloma is now considered a ghost town located about 9 miles Northwest of Placerville, California.
Reconstructed Sutter's Mill There are cemeteries where some of the famous gunslingers were laid to rest along with other well known persons of the old west. There are some restored and preserved homes and buildings complete with reenactments of events of the times.
California even has its own State Ghost Town. The town of BODIE was designated as the state ghost town in 2002. It is located 50 miles south of Lake Tahoe near Bridgeport and Highway 395 near the Nevada border. When you are in the vicinity be sure to stop by and meet some of the residents. (ghosts) California is home to a large number of ghost towns. Some of which are: Eagle Mountain, Kelso and Jackson Gate. For more ghost towns click here.
Ghost towns have always held a place of interest for many travelers, myself included. Some day I would like to make a tour of all the ghost towns located in the west coast states.
How many there are nobody knows for sure. No one and has a complete and current list.
California was not just hard drinking and hard fighting men, but it was home to some pretty rough women too. Women like Belle Starr and Calamity Jane. Their stories can be found in the pages of California History. Under Links and Women of the West.
The history doesn't stop there. It continues on into places like San Francisco, Sacramento, Fresno and many other cities. Check with the Chamber of Commerce of any city and they will gladly fill you in on more of their state facts and knowledge. Gold was not the only thing of notoriety in California. There was also outlaws, cattle rustlers, farmers, ranchers and of course, more Gold. BLACK GOLD that is. OIL.
Oil wells of California The discovery of OIL in the 1800's brought on another kind of gold rush. People again came from all over the globe to work the oil fields and make their fortune. Thats right, Cowboys, Indians, outlaws, Gold and Oil and the Silver Screen. Movies. Movie studios offer visitors a tour of actual working movie works. Who knows, you visit California and you just may find yourself being a part of some movie. And of course, who could visit California without stopping at the world famous DISNEYLAND. DISNEYLAND (click on Mickey) There is more to California than Can be seen on one page. Continue the California tour.
